Farmer's Market

I could have titled this post "SHOPPING!" but I'm one of the few women in the world who HATE shopping so that just gives me a bad vibe (maybe I'm a special breed, definitely an alien of some sort).  And this 'shopping' experience was actually fun!

I went to the Farmer's Market on Larchmont.  It was my first time at a Farmer's Market since I was a little girl.  I used to go to the one in the valley at Organization for the Needs of the Elderly which my mom practically organized every week during my childhood.  So this was an adventure to say the least.

I was pretty lost to be honest.  I had no clue where to begin.  Then I had to somehow pick out kale, and parsley, and spinach without any signs!  I'm not exactly shy, so I happily embarrassed myself and openly announced to fellow shoppers or the employees that I had no idea what was what or what I was doing.  People were very encouraging and were glad to have a 'newbie.'  They provided guidance in helping me to differentiate different herbs and leafy greens.  I told several people what I was doing and why I was asking for such specific items.  (I had a list before I went to the market of all the veggies I wanted - I grossly underestimated certain items and bought way too much of others.  Haha!)  For example, if one table was out of kale they'd offer me lettuce, thinking it would be a solid salad substitute.  But I needed kale! And of course that led to WHY?  So it was fun!

It was a bit intimidating but I know I will get better at this.  It was a fun experience overall.  By the way, I chose a farmer's market rather than a regular grocery store, or a place like whole foods because I wanted EVERYTHING organic, everything in one place, and good prices.
And that is exactly what I got!

Hello yummy veggies!  :)

ALL of this, minus the carrots, cost me $45.25.  Personally, I think that's AWESOME.  I can juice this all week, and hopefully I have enough here so that I won't need to buy produce again this week.  I also found that at the market I randomly got deals like if it was the last bunch of spinach, or I just didn't have another whole dollar.  I frequently paid less than originally asked.  So I'm a happy camper!
