I chose this as Day One which worked out well because it's also a fast day for the Jews (17th of Tammuz). I'm exempt from fasting but am allowed to attempt to fast if I want as long as I stop at the first moment I don't feel well. So I fasted most of the day which was during the time I was doing all my Farmer's Market shopping! Great distraction from the hunger :)
Because I keep Kosher I had to thoroughly wash all the leafy greens and herbs. By the way, all the juicing books so far recommend thoroughly washing your veggies too, especially if they are not organic. But us Jews like to do things the hard way.
So I took all of the greens and herbs here >>>
And soaked them in soap water. That alone was exhausting!
Let's not forget, I have MS, and I'm fasting...I think I took on too much today! I'm thinking next time wash less at once. I mean I had bowls of lettuce, kale, parsley, mint, ALL OVER just chilling in soap suds. Anyway, with everything washed it was finally juicing time!
Remember, my first 5 days are colon cleanse, so:
1. Heavy on the veggies, especially greens
2. Extra Fiber
3. Probiotics regularly(gotta re-balance the flora of my intestines)
4. Colon Cleanse Cocktail every day
I made four juices thinking they would be for my Day 2. Of course by late afternoon I needed to break my fast and drank one of them - not bad!
Juice 1: Colon Cleanse Cocktail (From Calbom's book, Juicing, Fasting, & Detoxing for Life)
- Cucumber
- Parsley
- Lemon
- Spinach
Juice 2: Beet Cucumber Cleanser (also from Calbom's book - see juice 1)
Juice 3: Morning Energy (also from Calbom's book) - combo of cucumber, beet, ginger, lemon, and carrot
Juice 4: Awesome Green Smoothie (also from Calbom's book) - seriously yummy concoction with avocado!
*DISCLAIMER*
I'm not gonna post the exact recipes from the
books I have since I don't think it's fair to the authors to blast it to
the world. If you live nearby and wanna borrow a book when I'm done
with my juice fast lemme know.
I drank a bit of each one tonight to test flavors. My favorite is the Awesome Green Smoothie, it's a thicker consistency than the others. My least favorite was the Morning Energy so I think I'll stay away from that combo in the future.
Each juice recipe fit nicely into a half liter water bottle which I hope will make it easy to take juices to work and with me throughout the day on weekends.
Finished the day with mixing some ground flaxseed in water, followed by some mint tea.
So far so good. Really pumped for tomorrow when I get to really brave an entire day of just juice!
